Now that you know a bit more about the sports that are popular overseas, it is time to think about what is popular in New Zealand. For today, your challenge is to…

Activity 1
Take a picture of yourself participating in a popular New Zealand sport. On your blog tell us the name of the sport and why you have chosen it.
I have chosen netball because when I play netball at school I always get the ball in the hoop.
Activity 2
Write a short paragraph describing your sporting hero. Who is he/she? Why are they your favourite sportsman?
my sportswoman is Grace Rasmussen why is she my favourite because she is the best in New Zealand and she is the best and she have won heaps of games and that is why I chose her.

  1. Hi Helena!

It's great to read that you like to play netball. I really enjoy it as well! In order to earn all of your points for Activity #1 we are looking for you to post a picture of yourself playing netball. Are you able to do that? If not, you could always draw a picture of yourself playing and post it up online. That works too :)

I hope that you have lots of time to play netball this holiday. I am hoping to get outside to play basketball with my son, Aronui. We have a hoop in our driveway and we often go outside and shoot around. I find it really relaxing :)

On that note, hope you are having a relaxing holiday so far! I will check back soon to see if you've had a chance to post a picture of yourself playing netball!

    Take care :)

  2. Hi Helena,

So you're a netball fan. Good on you! There are people in our family who love the game as well!!

But here in Canada we play basketball rather than netball. The rules are slightly different. Both games are fun, though, aren't they?

I hope you're enjoying your summer and getting outside for lots of playtime with friends!

  3. Kia ora Helena,

I'm so glad to hear you like netball, that is one of my favourite sports too! If you're able to post a picture of you playing netball, that would be pretty cool! Then you'll get full points for this activity too.

A few years back, I used to work at Netball NZ for a while, and it was a really fun place to work! I got to meet all the Silver Ferns and go along to some of their games. Have you been to a Silver Ferns game before? My favourite player has always been Irene Van Dyk, but I think Grace Rasmussen is an incredible mid-court player and I hope to see her playing plenty more games for the Silver Ferns. What position do you play in netball? Are you a GA or GS if you're a shooter?

Good luck for the netball season this year! I hope you have lots of fun with your team mates :-)

    Naku noa,
    Dan.
