Winter Learning Journey Day 4 Bonus

Day 4 - Bonus
Bonus Activity: Hector’s dolphins are a very special native animal found only in New Zealand. They are the smallest dolphin in the world measuring 1.5 metres long and they are quite rare. Sadly, many Hector’s dolphins are killed every year when they get caught in large fishing nets and can’t escape. Some people have argued that fishermen shouldn’t be allowed to fish in Farewell Spit in order to protect the dolphins living there. What do you think? On your blog, tell us whether you think that fishing in Farewell Spit should be banned (stopped).
Yes because I don't like rare animals dead in the sea because we wont get to see them in the aquarium because fishers catch them then they put them in the aquarium.

  1. Kia Orana Helena,

Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme. I'm Jacinta and I am very pleased to say that I will be blogging with you through the school holidays.

Thank you for taking the time to complete Day 4 bonus activity. In a few more sentences I want you to explain your thoughts on why Hector dolphins are special and important to New Zealand. What would happened if the fisherman were banned from Farewell spit? Will it affect people visiting the aquarium? These are some questions that may prompt and help you to get a few ideas. Have another read of the link 'Hector's dolphins' above.

This is a great start. Keep up the great work.

    Cheers,

    Jacinta
