Winter Learning Journey-Activities 3

Bonus: During the ancient Olympic Games, men were allowed to compete in the events but women were not. In fact, women were often forbidden from even watching the games. In your opinion, is this a fair rule? Why or why not? On your blog please tell us what you think about this interesting rule.

The rule is fair because if boys are allowed to go to the game then the girls will go to the game with them.

Why should they go because boys does not like girls but girls do everything for boys boys.

  1. Hi again Helena!

I think that the ancient Olympic 'No Girls Allowed' rule meant that girls weren't allowed to go to the Olympics at all - even to watch. That means that they were stuck at home waiting for the men to return from the competition. I think that it wasn't fair for the women to be forbidden from attending or participating in the game. I would have wanted them to be able to compete (if they had wanted to). Fortunately, the modern Olympic games operate under different rules so both men and women can participate. Yay!

I am really looking forward to watching the male and female athletes at the Rio Olympics this year. I wonder if the athletes from New Zealand will win any medals. I think that Valerie Adams will likely win a medal in shot put. What about you?

    Cheers, Rachel
